What is a thriller?

Thriller is a genre, used in films, programs etc. A thriller film would be a film with an exciting plot, which normally involves crime, mystery, or espionage. There would be excitement, hidden identity, murder and more often then not there would be good and bad battling against each other.

An example of thriller would be 'The Usual Suspects'. I studied their film cover and picked out key points that suggested it was a thriller. The poster shows 5 men at a line up. You can find out about their personalities from the poster. 5 men in a police line up. They are all dressed differently, one of them is in a cream suit, one is wearind a long leather jacket. They are various different heights. None of them are smiling. Man on the far right is holding his arm. Man dressed in leather is shown with an agressive stance. There are horizontal lines behind them, the tallest man is in the middle forming a pyramid shape. The title is red font.

Analysing these points:

The fact ther are in a police line up signifies they are in trouble. They are all in the same situation, as they are all stood together. The man wearing the cream suit looks slightly different to the others, the light coloured suit symbolises innocence and goodness. Red font represents danger and symbolises blood. The man holding arm for discomfort or for disability purposes. Pyramid could show power, hierachy between the characters.

Photography and Image Manipulation

Photography brings a visual language that is universal in understanding. We must then understand its vocabulary which consists of shapes, textures, patterns, lines, colours, shade of light to dark and sharp to blurry images. Just as we must learn to arrange words in a coherent order in order to make sense when we write or speak, so too must we put visual elements together in an organized manner if our photographs are to convey their meaning clearly and vividly.
Composition means arrangement: the orderly putting together of parts to make a unified whole; composition through a personal, intuitive act. However, there are basic principles that govern the way visual elements behave and interact when you combine them inside the four borders of a photograph. Once we have sharpened our vision and grasped these basic ideas of principles, then we will have the potential for making our photographs more exciting and effective than ever before.

When using photoshop, within the past two weeks, I have learnt how to cut and paste an image into another image. Also changing tones of the colours so the background and foreground colours match acordingly. I also learnt how to create a reflecting effect, so that if you wanted a reflection in the water you can create your own. I also learnt how to blur and smudge the photos for a different effect. I took an image of 'clover field' which has sea in the foreground, I cut and pasted a Woman and made it look like she was walking in the water. I created a reflection effect and changed the tones of her to match the background.

About Myself

I was previously at Hurstpierpoint college, near Brighton, I was there for three year before coming here...
I live in Gomshall, which is about 10/15 minutes away from Hurtwood House. I enjoy many different films including: Finding nemo, DearJohn, Valentines Day etc. I love 'Friends', 'misfits' 'Skins' and 'The Inbetweeners'. I like most music but in particular, I like: 'The drums', 'lightspeed champion', 'Los camposinos' and many others. I think that media will be very interesting and I will learn a lot. Also media is all around us and yet becoming more popular so will be very useful. I also think that media is something that I will benefit from later on in life.
